From the August 18, 2006 edition of the Portland Press Herald, an article penned by Tux Turkel, titled "Tourism spending rose in 2005, state reports":
"Maine's tourism industry broke out of a four-year slump in 2005 and increased the total number of overnight trips to the state by 9 percent and the number of overnight vacationers by 12 percent, figures being released today show."
"Taken together, overnight travelers made 9.7 million trips and spent 15 percent more last year than in 2004, leaving behind $3.1 billion spent on meals, lodging, purchases and services."

The headline reads "Tourists stop Vacationland Slump in 2005" in the August 19, 2006 edition of the Lewiston Sun-Journal, from AP:
"Figures released Friday by Maine Gov. John Baldacci show the total number of overnight visits to Maine grew by 9 percent, and the total number of overnight vacationers grew by 12 percent in 2005."
